Korean lotus lantern festival parade at night: a street packed with thousands of handmade Korean Buddhist lotus lanterns (yeondeung — layered paper petals in pink, red, yellow, white and green, NOT Chinese red cylinder lanterns, NOT Japanese chochin) carried overhead by marchers, and above them giant glowing paper lantern sculptures of a blue dragon, a white elephant and a phoenix lit from within. Strings of lanterns cross the sky between buildings. Faces small, lit warmly from above. Dense, festive, maximum saturation. No text, no letters, no logos.
